Filial Piety

At the recent National Family Celebrations, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong noted that the basic tenets that make up a strong family – love, respect and filial piety – remained deeply entrenched and that it was important to keep family ties strong. The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) has also launched a new campaign on filial piety with the tagline “How one generation loves, the next generation learns”.

PTC and LTA respond to concerns over Distance Fares

On 3 July 2010, Singapore’s public transport system switched to distance-based charging. Bus and train fares are now calculated based on distance travelled and the type of service taken to get to a destination.

 
SMRT on Changi Depot Security Breach

Members discussed their views on the recent report of a 33-year old Swiss national breaking into the MRT depot and vandalised MRT train with garish graffiti. They were very concerned that the MRT personnel were still unaware of the vandalism and allowed the train to begin its daily route for an unknown period of time, in full view of commuters.

REACH Youth Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony 2010

The newly-launched iconic youth hub, *SCAPE, was abuzz with unusual excitement in the early morning on 22 June. Donning their white polo shirts, a mass of students from different schools waited eagerly for the commencement of the Appointment Ceremony. They are none other than our second batch of REACH Ambassadors who will be appointed for the next 18 months!

Pre-University Seminar 2010

The Pre-U seminar is an invitation to youths to engage in the political, social and economic issues that form the framework of our society. This year’s seminar included an outreach programme called “An insight into the building blocks of our nation”, which brought students on a learning journey with leading statutory boards, ministries and agencies which were involved in building Singapore’ economy. REACH was happy to receive students’ reflections from this programme. Let’s see what some of them have to say!
