What help can a matured unemployed professional get?
By shirley hoon @ 10:47 AM :: 1776 Views :: 8 Comments :: :: General

I noticed the measures farmed out by government seems to cater for the very rich or the very poor. Example, relief funds for those who has low income of S$1500 living in 3 rooms flat or less.

There is a new class known as the "new poor" in Singapore who live in a bigger apartment, holding some financial libilities that they could not let go due to current economic conditions. Have aged parents to take care off and worse - unemployed as they belong to the matured professionals who are affected by the change in work trend.

I am one of them.

I went to the Community Development Council who referred me to moral family service centre for help in terms of some government relief and subsidiaries. None could help as they term me not under the needy category of less than S$1500/mth. I told them I did some contract work and is based on assignment and monthly payable.

Even getting work is a challenge as employers were not willing to employ any person above 45 years. I was turned down from a trainer post from Prudential becasue of my age.

So, I can empathised with this group which is the most neglected and ignored population group.

I believe there are data that reflects the number of professional jobs against the number of seeker in the matured category is off balanced.
