I think a government job in its highest level is to make S'porean life better. Our political leaders have articulated that we can achieve this if we can make S'pore a World class city in terms of living standards & efficiency.
So exactly why is LTA doing the opposite with its ban on private car leasing. See asia1 article : http://www.straitstimes.com/Singapore/Story/STIStory_243787.html?sunwMethod=GET
WHY BAN !?!
a) Look at the model - it very efficiently serve the needs of 3 parties - owner, leasing company & potential leasee. Govt don't lose a cent since COE etc..are the same.
b) S'prean in trouble with lease payment & you ban a perfectly good option for him to remove his liabilities? An example that was quoted :
CASH-STRAPPED businessman Lau Cheun Kee 'leased' his 2004 Honda Odyssey seven-seater to a rental firm when his food business failed last year. But he now faces a bigger problem: involuntary bankruptcy and possible prosecution by the Land Transport Authority.
I think LTA should instead facilitate this & devote some effort to work with industry players to ensure that the insurance angle is covered by way of premium top up.
Civil servants - you've a very high burden in meeting the above objectives & the nation depends on you achieving it &/or doing your part to facilitat it. It cannot be done by "ass-covering" attitude.
