Singapore Largest bank (UOB) behaved like a "LOAN SHARK"
By lawcl72 @ 1:25 PM :: 1541 Views :: 9 Comments :: :: General

I was the credit card holder of UOB and due to mistakes from me cause unable to make payment to UOB promptly in 2006. UOB has sued me for that and I was negotiated with UOB collection department to make installment of SGD1000 per month until the entire amount is settled.

I have been suffered from not renewing by an investment bank due to this lawsuit. I was lost my job from July 2007 till 10 Oct 2007 and no income during that period of time. During this period of time, I seek from my friends help to borrow some money in order to make payment promptly so that I can clean myself from the financial embarrassment ASAP.

I requested UOB to send me a copy of statement of my installment on April 08 to find out the final outstanding. UOB never send me any statement for the past 2 years. I have to call them to get the details.

I was very happy when I saw the outstanding amount with the bank can be cleared by Jun 08 as of 22 Apr 2008.

I also call out the UOB collection department to confirm the final outstanding amount on the week of 2nd June 08. The collection department officer told me the final outstanding and I agreed to pay the final bill on 12 June 2008 so that I can clear my status by end of June 08.

I was caught by surprised when my tenant told me that the bailiff had sent me a Notice of Sale that my property will be sold by public auction on 25th Jun 2008. The creditor is UOB.

I call UOB to find out what was happening and the officer insists that the court has the right to send me the Notice of Sale. She also said that the UOB solicitor had informed the Bailiff stop this Writ of Seizure of Sale. When I called the Bailiff to clarified, the Bailiff Officer told me that no official replied on 30 May 08 so he proceeded to issue the Notice of Sale to me.

I had called UOB collection department and to date, the office and the UOB solicitor insist that they didn't do any mistake in this case.

I’m shock in this whole matter as I didn’t know that Singapore Finance Laws allow the bank to perform "LOAN SHARK" style to the debtor.

I'm now doubting of Singapore Laws now? Are they really protecting all people in Singapore?

May be someone out there can answer my doubts and any idea what shall I do the next?
