Speaking on the sidelines of an event to raise awareness on breast cancer recently, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Lim Hwee Hua suggested that Medisave be extended to include coverage for mammograms. Similar calls were also made by REACH contributors for the use of Medisave to be extended to include important health screenings.

In a bid to tackle the rising number of loansharking and harassment cases, the Ministry of Home Affairs tabled a series of changes to the Moneylenders Act in Parliament in November 2009.

 

Contributors who have given feedback on the issue generally lauded the measures, including the proposals to mete out heavier punishment on loansharks, as well as the borrowers who disclose false information to loansharks and put innocent victims in danger.

In a survey of 4,000 motorists and public transport commuters commissioned by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), it was found that public transport mode share dipped four percent from 63% in 2004 to 59% last year. The REACH discussion forum saw active discussion on this issue, with most contributors wondering how public transport ridership could have fallen, given the increasing population size.
