Recent news reported that MPs and social workers were seeing an increasing number of residents seeking help to cope with the rising cost of living. One of the news reports also noted some Singaporeans as saying that utility bills and prices of basic goods have risen so much so that they have difficulty coping or have insufficient finances to cover household expenses. Those on financial assistance schemes now approaching the MPs more frequently to request for good and utility vouchers.

It is clearly seen the living standard is back on past decades trend. Recession is approaching? U.S. market tumbles in its Credit/Banking stuff. China is improving so strong. The competition of the current economy causes the rises of the living standard is inevitable. The Low-Mid Income household will gets their miserable days if the government is not doing anything about it.

The most recent case of 7% GST has already affecting the consumer daily needs, and gradually the daily needs is also influenced such as China Pork controlled by AVA. Than Flour and so on...

Despite of the bonus package thing that trying to calm and assist the Low-Poor Income household, it didn't seem to help and the government should look into doing much more than the earlier plan.

Current hot news was the hike of Crude oil price affecting the petrol price to goes up to $2 a litre. When the Crude oil fell, the price did not reside to a fair value, hence most transportation company begins to revise their rate eventually. How will this not affect the Mid-Income expense power? If this again fulfill, more Taxi Driver is going to lose their job as the number of passenger will decrease, un-ethical practise Taxi Driver will arise... This will cause an un-foreseen circumstances when it gets worse.

It is a sad thing to see how this economy behaves!

WHAT TO DO?

1. DROP THE 2% GST AND REVERT BACK TO 5% GST INSTEAD.

2. DROP THE CIVIL SERVANT'S 2 MONTH BONUS - AS GOVERNMENT NEED TO TAX THE PUBLIC IN GETTING THOSE REVENUE IN PAYING OUT.

3. REDUCE THE SHOP RENTALS - IT IS TOO HIGH WHERE MOST OF THE TENANTS CANNOT WITHSTAND SUCH HIGH RENTS.

4. REDUCE THE MEDICAL FEES.

5. CHECK ALL FOOD PRICES FOR ITS SCRUPLOUS INCREASE.

THESE CONTROL WOULD BE ABLE TO HELP MANY, MANY, MANY LOWER INCOME, RETIREES, NOT WORKING GROUPS.

There are bascially 4 groups of citizens.
Group 1
Sufficient and do not need help.

Group 2
Sufficient but still want help.

Group 3
Poor, need help and knows where to get help.

Group 4
Poor, need help but don't know/ refuse help (prefer to keep to oneself)

Probably MPs has been seeing more often of group 2 & 3. I hope MPs can reach out to group 4. How to do it will be a great challenge for the MPs to sort out.

I guess those are the lower income group who need more financial help.
Perhaps do what NTUC is doing-To offset some of the basic household items from GST etc... But sometimes, i wonder if there is really a offset or not

Christmas is coming, the annual boys' brigade charity event is a good way for Sporean to show their generosity to the needy by contributing foodstuff & gift.....

Something very strange this year.
Everyone (or the Government) has been saying that the economy is strongest and can give 2-months bonus.
But, this year, I have not received free diaries, calenders and few Christmas cards from other companies.
There seems to be a cost cutting exercise going on in the private sectors already. Recession could be coming very soon.
A repeat of 1996 - where property price is high, companies are not spending as much, only government is spending.
Other clue.... our PM decided to let go the role as Finance Minister. No more goodies for the people. Tough actions coming.
